Description

First and foremost as always, I did not draw this. I mooched of a friend, yet again, and this time it was the always talented :iconfluffyz: Go check her stuff. Do it. Now.

Alright, here it is, my character Ref for :iconbloodbathoct: that...well...technically it's both Refs, but whatever.

Name: Squid-in-Jar

Age: 20 (though has the mentality of a 30-40 year old)

Gender: Male

Species: Special type of Cephalopod. Likes to believe it has shells, like a nautilus, but is in the shape of something between squid and Octopus. Exact number of arms is unknown, and changes with the environment and diet of the individual.

Height: Currently he’s stuck in a jar that’s about 1.5 feet tall

Weight: Alone he’d weigh somewhere around 50 lbs. With his jar, however, it’s closer to 60 lbs.

Strengths: Squid-in-Jar is very melee-intensive. In battle he likes to have Dog get up close, so he can use his powerful arms to wreak havoc on whatever they’re in conflict with. Alone, one of his arms can strangle a man. Together, they can strangle many men, as well as crush bones and other things that are important for living. He has 3 long-range arms that are used to bring others in closer, which are a bit springy, but incredibly strong. Extremely intelligent.

Weaknesses: Since he’s stuck in his jar, Squid-in-Jar has a very limited range of sight. Unless they’re to the sides of Dog, Squid-in-Jar has a very hard time seeing, and must rely on verbal cues from Dog. Since he and Dog are two separate beings, and neither one of the telepathic, they can’t synch up their movements to a perfect degree. Dog could be trying to evade and attack while Squid-in-Jar is holding on to someone else. This does not work out very well. They have been working together for awhile, so these problems aren’t quite as common, but still very troublesome when they do occur. His long-range arms may be strong, but they lack the fine motor capabilities his other arms have. When attempting to catch far-away foes, he’s stuck to fishing. Tossing out his arms and reeling in again and again until he catches them.

Personality: Squid-in-Jar is the kind of guy who would kick a puppy. He doesn’t like people. He hates everything and everyone, and makes sure they know that. His words say so through his constant insulting and berating of even his companion Dog. His actions say so through the pranks and mean things he does, such as pulling chairs from under people, breaking important things, locking people in rooms, tossing food in faces and stealing things. That’s on a good day.

History: Squid-in-Jar was the result of a failed genetic experiment meant to combine different types of Cephalopods to make a perfect underwater warrior and spy. Strong enough to fight off predators, smart enough to know what to look for, remember every detail, and report back without mistake, and fast enough to cover large areas in minimal time. Needless to say the mastermind who tried this didn’t have any sort of support from the king, but had the personal funds to pay off anyone who actually cared to turn him in.

Squid-in-Jar was one of his first experiments, and was kept as a reminder of his past failures. For fourteen years, Squid-in-Jar was kept in a small glass aquarium, fed minimal amounts, and never allowed out. For fourteen years he watched the twisted professor attempt to make something or other by manipulating innocent creatures. Then, the professor made something that was nice, that wanted to help. Squid-in-Jar made full use of this and had Dog free him, allowing them both to run away. In the years after that, the two have almost never been separated.

Other: HE. NEVER. LEAVES. HIS. JAR.
Also, he knows Morse code. 14 years with nothing to do will drive a squid to learn some crazy things.

Being a combination of Squid, Octopus, and a few other Cephalopods, Squid-in-Jar has a strange array of arms he can use. Also, he is able to squeeze into impossibly small areas, even with his large multitude and size of arms.

Name: Dog

Age: 6

Gender: Male

Species: Dog…no real solid breed, but most likely looks close to a sort of mastiff.

Height: 3’2”

Weight: 130 lbs.

Strengths: Dog is average in terms of speed, and exceptional in terms of strength. His mind is so far geared towards flight instead of fight he can instantly pick the best path to run away on. Given a choice of 100 different ways to go, he’ll always pick the one that’s easiest to run away on, and the hardest to chase on.

Weaknesses: Thanks to the jar on his back, Dog is slowed down considerably. He’s also not too bright. When in battle, has the same problem as Squid-in-Jar. He can’t tell what Squid-in-Jar is going to do, so sometimes their actions conflict with each other.

Personality: To describe Dog simply would to say that he is a doormat person. He’s the kind of person that would get mugged and offer his mugger his credit-card number and change from his pocket…maybe even his shoes. Sadly, he has none of those, so he has to focus on doing whatever Squid-in-Jar tells him to do. He does do things for other people too, but since he’s been with Squid-in-Jar for so long, he will always take his orders above anyone else’s.
Truth be told, he abhors violence, but since Squid-in-Jar is so apt to cause problems, sometimes he has to let Squid-in-Jar do the fighting, while he does the moving around. See, since Squid-in-Jar is just a cephalopod who’s stuck in a metal jar, he can’t move around. This means it’s up to Dog to care for his friend.

History: Almost as soon as he was created, Dog was discarded as useless. He had been part of an attempt to make a creature that could tackle and hold down prey, useful for tracking and hunting larger things. This was to be done by giving it a pair of arms on his shoulders. This failed, and Dog was not smart, or motivated enough to do any harm, so was basically left to his own devices. Squid-in-Jar quickly took advantage of this, and befriended Dog, later using him to escape. There weren’t many places for failures like them to go, so when they found the dark camp, they stayed there, glad for a home.

Other:
See the red asterisk thing? yeah, those smaller arms don't have to be drawn if it's too complex. The largest arms on his sides and the other ones on his neck (total of four) are needed. Other than that, draw as many or as few extra arms as you wish, other contestants.
